baby dolls...
Okay, this is a funny post - but I need some help. We are going to get Aspen a nice baby doll for Christmas (and yes, I am doing my Christmas shopping in October ;) and I am having a hard time deciding which one to get. I have done a lot of research (I swear I research EVERYTHING! Even baby dolls!) and my top two choices, which happen to come in close to the same price range are the Madame Alexander baby doll "huggins" (top) or the American Girls "bitty" baby doll (bottom).
Madame Alexander baby doll is 12 inches.
Bitty Baby is 15 inches so a little bigger.
I love that both have eyelids that open and close. I love that the Madame Alexander doll looks so old-fashioned and classic. I love that both have soft, huggable bodies. I just can't decide.
It might help to say that these are going to go along with the doll - the crib for Christmas and the high chair for her birthday in January.
Some other contenders were Gotz and Carolle dolls.
Anyone want to help me? Only give me another suggestion if it's really good :) Otherwise, which one would you choose, and why? We are hoping this baby doll will get years of love before she inevitably asks for one of the big American Girl dolls...
Anyone have a Madame Alexander doll growing up? Just fyi this one is made for play and not one of the collectibles.
Anyone have a Bitty Baby growing up? (I know my sister Jamie did so there's got to be more of you young-uns out there that had one as well).
Okay, that's all. Just a shout out for some baby-doll-loving girls out there to help me make up my mind -- you know, I try to have ALL my holiday shopping done by Dec. 1st (if not sooner!)
Thanks!
PS- to be honest, I think I'm just about as excited and giddy about all this doll stuff as she will be! (maybe even more!) I was a bit of a "tomboy" growing up but I sure LOOOOVED my baby dolls!
PSS- don't tell Aspen about this! :)

I like the look of the MA doll more than the AG doll. She's so sweet and classic! For me I'd pick which ever one is more practical for buying it clothing since as Apsen gets older she will love dressing and undressing her. AG dolls can be pricey with their wardrobes but they do have a big selection. 12" are also a very common sized doll so there is probably lots of generic clothing options for her as well. Have fun playing dolls with Aspen! :)

Are you sure this doll isn't really for you Tysha?! I am just like you, I get more into the gifts sometimes than my kids! We gave Annah the AG Bitty Baby last Christmas and it's very sweet. She likes it a lot. What I like about it is that it's easy for the grandparents, etc. to get her new clothes and accessories for the doll which they do for birthdays and holidays and when we got to craft fairs, etc. most baby doll stuff fits the 15 inch doll. But I also like the look of the other one. Good luck!
I vote for Bitty Baby. I know I am too big to play with dolls, but I have an AG doll myself (I have no experience with the other brand). I was the girly girl, and I still get joy when they send me the AG catalog. Shhh..I even looked at their website the other day, as I was contemplating purchasing a Halloween outfit for Kit, since she is more of a "decoration" for me and I like her to fit in with the holidays. AG dolls are such nice qualities and I love how you can really get involved with all of their accessories, stories and adventures!
I love the Bitty Baby doll. It is great quality. My mom bought one years ago and now my nephew has it. It is very realistic looking- so watch out;0 Its tricked me a few times.
AG dolls are great and very high quality but I will always be an MA doll girl. I think they are just gorgeous. I even buy Happy Meals when they have the little MA dolls inside. Yuck, but I love them that much :)
FWIW, I personally prefer little soft dolls for my toddler girl. She likes to snuggle with her baby in bed, to carry it around outside, to have it while potty training... it's going to get dirty and worn out and well loved! I like that I can throw it in the wash. Then when she is older and can care for her doll a little better I will get her something nicer. (I wish I remembered the brand of her dolly... her aunty got it for her for Christmas and I like all right. If I had my with I'd get her a sweet little Waldorf-type doll.)
I think the MA one is much cuter.
christmas in october? i can't judge. christmas started two months ago for me. :) i can't resist.
