The countdown begins!

We had the final walk through for our townhouse tonight, and we close in 2 days. It has all seemed somewhat surreal...all the paper signing, waiting - just the whole process - of buying our first home. And we did it FAST. But once we were in there tonight, we started getting excited. (It's been a little hard to be too excited about the whole moving process since I haven't been feeling well at all for the past month.) We narrowed down the paint colors. We even bought our very own mailbox! There are still a lot of things on the checklist of "to dos" but we are well on our way! I have even felt well the past two days, which I am hoping is a new trend as it is much more fun to hang out at the beach playing with Sawyer, keeping cool on hot days, and checking those "to dos" off my list than lay on the couch or the floor feeling sick all day long. Let the countdown begin! We are STOKED about owning our very own home!!!

Better Days...

Last night, right as I was about to go to bed, we had a knock on our door. It was our neighbor, who also happens to work as a caterer. He had very few words as he handed a box to Jacob: "medicine for the pregnant lady". Well, he must know something I don't, because chocolate dipped strawberries sure sat well with me last night, I think I devoured them in record time! I have had a few better days - thanks to getting a lot more sleep and eating more protein for breakfast. But it's knocks on the door like last night that make my day. There truly are angels among us! We are sure going to miss our good neighbors...

I guess I might as well announce that we are moving! Not very far (aboutt 5 miles to be exact) but nonetheless, we will be moving very soon. We bought our first home - a brand spankin' new townhouse in the Greenwood neighborhood, near Greenlake. We're very excited! And also going to be busy getting moved and settled in the next two weeks. So excuse any absenses from the blog-o-sphere until we are up and running again ;) Don't worry, we'll give more details and have pictures to show later.

As for today, those strawberries and chocolate did me better - Sawyer and I are going to actually make our last swim class today! Hooray!

Mentos and Coke

I've had a few pretty amazing days lately, well, 2 days last week - luckily, the day my friends were here from New York and we got to meet up with them in the evening at the Seattle Center Fountain, was a great day (thanks Dyers!). I also had a few good hours to do a photo shoot and visit a friend on Thursday, and a couple of hours for another photo shoot on Saturday. It was a newborn shoot, which made me remember how worth it all the sicks and side effects of pregnancy are at the end when you get the Grand Prize. But, sadly, I have been feeling worse and worse. Sawyer and I even skipped swim class all last week. I don't mean to complain: but it's no fun. I had to opt out of teaching on Sunday (I HATE backing out last minute, oh, the guilt!) and am frequently opting out of anything but laying on the floor putting legos together with Sawyer, these days. I have been SO much more sick with this pregnancy. And I have a long long ways to go! I didn't really have ANY "morning" sickness with Sawyer. I had a few moments of nausea, but mostly I was just tired with him. But hopping out of bed and off to work as a nanny didn't phase me much. I'm tellin' ya, this morning (okay, all day) sickness is no fun! (As if you didn't know, those who've been through it.) Today, I was hanging around in the bathroom, admiring the ceramic bowl, and Sawyer came and pulled my hair to move my head out of the way so he could see what it is that I find so interesting in there. Funny? My grandmother is convinced that since I am so much more sick this time, it is a girl. I have no idea...what do you think? Any tips to beat the sicks? So far, my only remedies, as odd a combo as they are, are Mentos (the mint ones) and Coke. I'm open to suggestions!

Fun with Friends

We've had a great week hangin' out with friends. Tomorrow we're excited to do more of the same - especially since I get to see a friend I haven't seen for something like 4.5 years! We're excited to play with you Minna, Hannah, Jane, & Claire!

Christmas in July...or why I chopped my hair.

One of my favorite stories to read at Christmas time is O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi." This past winter, I decided I wanted to be like Della and give my hair away. So, here we are in July...I've been letting my hair just grow for quite sometime. I don't mind it long - in fact, when I take the time to do it (very rare) it looks really pretty. I usually just let the natural wave take over and have "wild hair". (Jacob likes the natural "low maintenance" girl I am!) The last month or so, though, I was starting to feel a little too Laura Ingalls Wilder, if you know what I mean. Anyway - at the encouragement of one of my former nanny kids (Micaela!) I decided to finally get my hair cut and donate it to Locks of Love. It is going to be Christmas in July for some child who has lost their hair due to disease or chemotherapy!!!

One of my sisters tried to talk me out of it. I know I probably look better with long hair. But the trick is: I know mine will grow back. And I probably will grow it longer again in time. The kids I am donating it to - well, theirs might not. So, I went to my stylist, a guy at Habitude (an Aveda Salon) in Ballard named Kermit, who I adore, and I said: "Today's the day!" He knew I had been planning this. I asked him if it was a stylists dream to chop off a bunch of long hair. He said, "well, it is pretty exhilerating!" So I had him cut the 10 inches and then trusted him to make me look cute, with what was left. He did a great job! Only thing is, if I want it to look sleek, I have to do it now, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (short hair and natural wave don't go together that well for this style).

A Very Merry Christmas to whoever gets my hair!
